Dear Friends,

Today I am very glad for our blog got a new comment. It was so special because it came from one of our kind friends in Solingen, He is Diotim. I had already waited for this moment when I wrote the posting “Sharring” and then i would get the one who had met us would write reply. now we get a little miracle that Diotim found our blog.

Here, I am writing and sending my happiness to You all. to Wiwi who is in Tanzania, Doerthe who is in Holland, Uli, Paska in Papua, Thsephang and Judith in Africa, and Eilika in Germanya, and the others.

I wish that you will find this blog soon and join us to keep in touch.

I wish you (Daniel, Sarah, Rebecca, Louise, and the children in YFC 06) come in this blog ..

Solingen is another city that we visited there because the kinder planet was run here. Hackausherhof is located in Solingen. It is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the northern edge of the region called Bergisches Land, south of the Ruhr area, and with a 2005 population of 162,685 is the second largest city in the Bergisches Land. It is a member of the regional authority of the Rhineland.
Solingen is called the “City of blades”, since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors made by famous firms such as Wüsthof, J. A. Henckels, Boker, and numerous other manufacturers. Wilkinson is also based here.
Solingen lies southwest of Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land. The city has an area of 89.45 square kilometers (34.54 sq. miles), of which roughly 50% is used for agriculture, horticulture, or forestry. The city’s border is 62 kilometers (38.5 miles) long, and the city’s dimensions are 15.6 kilometers (9.7 miles) east to west and 11.7 kilometers (7.3 miles) north to south. The Wupper river, a right tributary the Rhine, flows through the city for 26 kilometers (16.2 miles). The city’s highest point at 276 metres (906 ft) is in the northern borough of Gräfrath at the Light Tower, previously the water tower, and the lowest point at 53 metres (174 ft) is in the southwest.
During our time in Solingen we spent it at the hachausherhof and visiting a church in langenfeld distric to have Sunday worship, and having time in a place called beer garden. It was a café that was located in the middle of small forest. We passed the small forest and wheat fields to reach there. We spent the time there to talk each other, playing billiard, and drinking beer. We attended the worship in an evangelical kirche in Rhineland (EkiR). There we also performed a vocal group of our team. We sang two songs in front of the audients.
There’re lots of memories with both the children and other participants that we got here. It was really wonderful memories. We will never forget Solingen.

Cologne

Cologne was a city we once spent our time there. One day we got chance to have exposure. Cologne had been chosen by UEM as the city we would visit. It caused by the reason that there’s a chocolate museum there beside the Rhein River, a famous river in Germany.

Because actually the topic of YFC was about chocolate as well, visiting Cologne was very useful for the participants to get to know the processing of chocolate.

Now let us tell give you a short story and information about Cologne.

Cologne or Koln (German Language) is the fourth largest (405,15 km²) cities in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. Cologne is also the sixteenth-biggest city in United European. It has 1.020.603 population.

In the German culture, cologne is well known for its beer called “kolsch”. We traveled from Wuppertal to Cologne by Train. It took 2 hours. First, we visited chocolate museum, It was nice experience to get to know the history of chocolate and the producing process. Later, we continued our exposure to visit Cathedral; it is also one of famous building in Germany. Here we also watched a replicate of David statue that well known for Michelangelo’s masterpiece.

Afterward, we enjoyed the daylight at the city center by watching some shows, having ice cream, and visiting some shops. We also still felt the atmosphere of Germany world cup 2006 here, because cologne was one of the hosts.
