Solingen

October 8, 2008

Solingen is another city that we visited there because the kinder planet was run here. Hackausherhof is located in Solingen. It is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the northern edge of the region called Bergisches Land, south of the Ruhr area, and with a 2005 population of 162,685 is the second largest city in the Bergisches Land. It is a member of the regional authority of the Rhineland.
Solingen is called the “City of blades”, since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors and razors made by famous firms such as Wüsthof, J. A. Henckels, Boker, and numerous other manufacturers. Wilkinson is also based here.
Solingen lies southwest of Wuppertal in the Bergisches Land. The city has an area of 89.45 square kilometers (34.54 sq. miles), of which roughly 50% is used for agriculture, horticulture, or forestry. The city’s border is 62 kilometers (38.5 miles) long, and the city’s dimensions are 15.6 kilometers (9.7 miles) east to west and 11.7 kilometers (7.3 miles) north to south. The Wupper river, a right tributary the Rhine, flows through the city for 26 kilometers (16.2 miles). The city’s highest point at 276 metres (906 ft) is in the northern borough of Gräfrath at the Light Tower, previously the water tower, and the lowest point at 53 metres (174 ft) is in the southwest.
During our time in Solingen we spent it at the hachausherhof and visiting a church in langenfeld distric to have Sunday worship, and having time in a place called beer garden. It was a café that was located in the middle of small forest. We passed the small forest and wheat fields to reach there. We spent the time there to talk each other, playing billiard, and drinking beer. We attended the worship in an evangelical kirche in Rhineland (EkiR). There we also performed a vocal group of our team. We sang two songs in front of the audients.
There’re lots of memories with both the children and other participants that we got here. It was really wonderful memories. We will never forget Solingen.

Cologne

October 7, 2008

Cologne was a city we once spent our time there. One day we got chance to have exposure. Cologne had been chosen by UEM as the city we would visit. It caused by the reason that there’s a chocolate museum there beside the Rhein River, a famous river in Germany.

Because actually the topic of YFC was about chocolate as well, visiting Cologne was very useful for the participants to get to know the processing of chocolate.

Now let us tell give you a short story and information about Cologne.

Cologne or Koln (German Language) is the fourth largest (405,15 km²) cities in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. Cologne is also the sixteenth-biggest city in United European. It has 1.020.603 population.

In the German culture, cologne is well known for its beer called “kolsch”. We traveled from Wuppertal to Cologne by Train. It took 2 hours. First, we visited chocolate museum, It was nice experience to get to know the history of chocolate and the producing process. Later, we continued our exposure to visit Cathedral; it is also one of famous building in Germany. Here we also watched a replicate of David statue that well known for Michelangelo’s masterpiece.

Afterward, we enjoyed the daylight at the city center by watching some shows, having ice cream, and visiting some shops. We also still felt the atmosphere of Germany world cup 2006 here, because cologne was one of the hosts.

thus, our short story about cologne.

Warm regards,

YfC team.

Preparation (The First Week in Wuppertal)

September 10, 2008

We started the YFC in wuppertal. we actually came in the same day however our friend, Paskalina came late because his document wasn’t complete yet. She came four days later. Our facilitators, Karin Guenter and Uli Baage had already waited for us. They welcame us happily.

During the first week, we spent the days by having many activities and sessions.

Knowing Each other

In this session we learn to know each others, not only by our name but also our character and personality too. In some early sessions we were still nervous. It’s hard to speak to them using English. Some times we lost our vocabularies and we couldn’t understand our friends’ spoken.

Different culture

The next session, we talked about our culture. Each of us told about our special cultures. Some of the topics that we discussed were about family, education, life philosophy, society rules. It was nice session. We could learn that there’s lots of different that we must deal with.

Living together in multicultural group

This session we were trained to build a good team work that have many differences.

Knowing more about Germany. This session was very useful for us who came from Asia and Africa. We learned about German Culture. Our facilitator told us lots of things about Germany. Then, we learned German language. Although in a short time and course, however we became more interested in learning German language. We learned some vocabularies and basic German grammar.

United Evangelical Mission – History & Work

We’re altogether in UEM office and listen to the speakers who are UEM Officer, he told us the history and work of the UEM. We also met some of the UEM staff there. They welcomed us nicely.

This session giving us lots of information and knowledge about UEM

Here was our experience in the museum of Evangelical. In the end of the session, the museum guardians invited us to enjoy one of the activities that they provide for the children. Although we were already young however we still enjoyed this activity. We made an animal face mask from paper. We spent about a half an hour to finish it. While we cut the paper and coloring, we had conversation. We talked about our experiences while we were working with the children in Sunday school, we also talked about our childish experieces. It was nice session we had in Wuppertal. We never forget it.

Woman Youth & Children Desk – Mission & Work

Mrs. Sonia Parrera Hummel, as the coordinator of Woman Youth & Children Desk – Mission & Work was the speaker of this session. She welcomed us gladly. She gave us lots of information about Woman youth, and children Desk. She motivated us to give the best in Youth for children, to do the follow up for our church after the program finished, and the most she gave lots of wise advices to keep in faith as Christians.

We thank you so much for the time we spent with her and for her trust in us to do the program. here some information that i can tell you and remind our team that there were lots of great moments in every second we spent together with.

Yours,

Oh, you’re thinking back,
you’re going back to places
that you’ve been,
Where days could last forever,
but you can only dream,
Oh, we’re going back I’m
looking back to places that
we’ve seen,
Moments that have been, places we can dream.

That’s how I feel. Miss you all very much! Kind regards from Holland!
